Free tool ยท Schema and llms.txt
Build your llms.txt, schema and robots.txt
Fill in your facts once and copy out the three files that tell search engines and AI assistants who you are, what you do and where. Ten minutes of housekeeping, and it's free.
An llms.txt file won't move you up in ChatGPT or Google. Google says its AI features don't use it, and studies of server logs find AI crawlers barely ask for it. It's harmless and takes ten minutes, so we include it. Anyone charging you for it as a ranking lever is selling air. The robots.txt matters more: if it blocks the answer engines' search crawlers, you can't show up at all.
Putting the files on your site
Wix, Squarespace or WordPress
Wix
Schema: open your site's SEO settings, then structured data markup, and paste the schema there. robots.txt: Wix has a robots.txt editor in the same SEO settings. llms.txt: Wix doesn't let you drop a file at the root of your site, so skip it. It doesn't move anything anyway.
Squarespace
Schema: paste it into code injection for the header. robots.txt: Squarespace manages it, and you can't add files like llms.txt at the root. Check that its "block AI crawlers" setting is off if you want to show up in AI answers.
WordPress
Schema: most SEO plugins have a spot for custom schema, or paste it into your theme's header. robots.txt and llms.txt: upload both to the top folder of your site, or use your SEO plugin's file editor.
Menus move around. If a setting isn't where we said, search the platform's help for "structured data" or "robots.txt."
What gets you into AI answers
Google says its AI Overviews and AI Mode run on the same systems as regular search. No special file or markup is required. ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Copilot search the web, read business listings and repeat what they find. So the work that counts is the ordinary kind, done well:
- Pages that answer the questions homeowners actually ask, in plain words, with your town in them.
- A Google profile, Bing Places listing and Apple Maps listing that say the same thing your site says.
- Reviews that mention the work you did and where.
- A robots.txt that lets the search crawlers in.
